Faculty of Economics of UEM Scientific Conference 2024 organized with IGM support

On 18 September 2024, the Faculty of Economics of the University of Eduardo Mondlane (FACECO-UEM) held its bi-annual scientific conference under the theme ‘New Structural Economy Towards Integral Development’.

The event, organized with the support of the Inclusive Growth in Mozambique (IGM) programme, was held at the UEM Main Campus. It was structured around a keynote presentation, three plenary sessions, five parallel sessions, and a poster session. Altogether 20 presentations were held, 3 of which were produced under the IGM programme: Ricardo Santos, IGM Resident Advisor, presented a recent paper on the role of information on the speed of job taking in Mozambique (WIDER Working Paper 2024/2), Hanna Berkel, also IGM Resident Advisor, discussed a paper on the socio-psychological factors affecting disaster preparedness among Mozambican micro enterprises (WIDER Working Paper 2024/16) and Marcelo Mucocana, IGM trainee, presented his policy note on crowding out in Mozambique.

Another key contribution of the IGM programme was the academic poster session, during which the IGM trainees Valdemiro Américo, Pamela Mabunda, Telça Massingue, Juli Melembe, Hilário Muchabel, Kenny Mutar and Vasco Vilanculos presented a series of academic posters summarizing some of the key findings of the research produced under the programme.

This one-day event was a unique opportunity to nurture academic debate and foster a culture of research exchange at UEM and the Faculty of Economics in particular. It also disseminated recent IGM research and identified opportunities for future collaboration.
