About the study
The paper examines the transition from university to the workforce of young graduates in Mozambique. This is a pivotal phase that significantly shapes their careers and economic future. The study delves into the challenges and identifies the key drivers of this transition mimicking a classic labour market framework for young graduates in Mozambique, with a supplementary analysis on gender discrepancies. Drawing on a survey of over 2000 university graduates, it unravels the factors influencing unemployment duration and gender disparities in this critical transition.
This research illuminates the complex journey of university graduates in Mozambique, underscoring the need for realistic wage expectations, effective networking, and urgent policy interventions. The study contributes to the limited literature on unemployment duration among university graduates in developing countries and offers valuable insights for policymakers. It also provides insights into how promoting competitiveness and representativeness can reduce unemployment duration and gender disparities in the labour market.
