About the study

The rapid growth of digital financial services has transformed the financial landscape worldwide, offering new opportunities for financial inclusion. Likewise, the adoption of non-traditional digital financial services, such as electronic money, has evolved remarkably in Mozambique in the latest years. Nevertheless, the risks associated with its use could threaten the effective implementation of the National Financial Inclusion Strategy 2016-2022.

This research aims to investigate digital financial services risks that influence financial inclusion in Mozambique, covering the period from 2013 to 2024. The study applies a hybrid approach, combining qualitative and quantitative research methods.

The findings of this study will contribute to the existing literature on digital financial services and financial inclusion, providing insights into the specific risks that impacts financial inclusion in Mozambique. The research outcomes will help policymakers, regulators, and digital financial service providers to develop strategies and guidelines aimed at mitigating risks, enhancing the safety and inclusiveness of digital financial services, and promoting greater financial inclusion in the country.
