CEEG Seminar Series: Access to data from rural surveys conducted by DIME in Mozambique

On Wednesday, 30 August 2023, Bordalo Mouzinho and André Machava from the World Bank Development Impact Department (DIME) will give a seminar on the data from rural surveys conducted by DIME in Mozambique through the Bank's microdata repository (microdata library).

The seminar is part of the CEEG Seminar Series, organized under the Inclusive growth in Mozambique (IGM) programme. The seminars offer a forum to share and discuss ongoing research on topics related to the work of the IGM programme and to foster a culture of research at the faculty and at UEM in general.

The seminars take place at the Faculty of Economics of the University of Eduardo Mondlane (UEM). They are public events open to everyone. The presentation will be given in Portuguese.

About the study

The World Bank Development Impact Department (DIME) is a department under the World Bank's Development Economics Vice Presidency. It has carried out more than 200 impact evaluations in more than 60 countries. DIME's objective is to increase the use of impact evaluation in the design and implementation of public policies. DIME promotes the systematic use of evidence, which informs adoption, corrections along the way, and mainstreaming of policies by linking researchers with policy makers. In Mozambique, DIME has been active for more than a decade through the portfolio of rural development impact assessments that have contributed to the dialogue on agrarian transformation in the country. As part of these assessments, various data collections (baselines, mid-term reviews and final evaluations) were conducted through surveys. The preparation of data from several studies carried out in Mozambique is underway to be published shortly in the World Bank's microdata repository (microdata library). This platform serves as a repository of data from various surveys by the World Bank and other agencies that can be accessed free of charge. Therefore, DIME intends in this seminar to present key information about the data available on this platform and share with participants the procedures for accessing the various types of data available on it. These are expected to be used to produce various research products, including theses.
