IGM donates ‘Mozambique at a Fork in the Road: The Institutional Diagnostic Project’ book to University of Eduardo Mondlane (UEM) central library
On 15 August 2024, the Director of the Faculty of Economics of UEM, Teles Huo, accompanied by the Director of the Centre for Economic and Management Studies, Pedro Pota, donated a physical copy of the ‘Mozambique at a Fork in the Road: The Institutional Diagnostic Project’ book to the Director of the Central Library Brazão Mazula of the University of Eduardo Mondlane, Horácio Zimba, on behalf of the Inclusive Growth in Mozambique (IGM) programme.
The book, published by Cambridge University Press, is based on the Mozambique Institutional Diagnostic study, carried out between 2019–2020 within the scope of the Economic Development & Institutions (EDI) programme in partnership with the IGM programme. It offers an insightful analysis of the historical and political context of Mozambique and its institutional constraints to economic development. It examines sectors that are critical for sustainable growth, such as agriculture, that receive low priority, and the frequent shocks in strategic policy that result in the absence of a clear national development vision. Building on a core set of thematic chapters, this compelling diagnostic tool provides a thorough and structured approach to understanding institutional dimensions of development.
‘The book Mozambique at a Fork in the Road is a valuable addition to the UEM library, as it portrays the Mozambican context and will thus allow for a better understanding of the challenges facing the country,’ Director Zimba highlighted upon receiving the book.
The objective of making the physical version of the book available to the University is to promote and facilitate research among teachers, students and researchers at UEM, and the wider academic community in general.
