Rosário Betho and Finório Castigo at WIDER Development Conference 2021

Rosário Betho and Finório Castigo, Ministry of Economy and Finance of Mozambique, present two recent research papers produced under the Inclusive growth in Mozambique (IGM) programme at the 2021 WIDER Development Conference.

The first one, entitled ‘The macroeconomic impact of COVID-19 in Mozambique. A social accounting matrix approach’, (WIDER Working Paper 2021/93) assesses the economic costs of COVID-19 and the state of emergency implemented by the Government of Mozambique. The second, ‘The impact of COVID-19 on consumption poverty in Mozambique’ (WIDER Working Paper 2021/94), focuses on the microlevel by assessing the impact on household consumption poverty.

The 2021 WIDER Development Conference, ‘COVID-19 and development – effects and new realities for the Global South’, takes place online during 6-8 September 2021. It focuses on the effects of the pandemic in different regions across the Global South and aims to connect research and policy communities around the world to discuss how to move forward.

The papers by presented by Betho and Castigo are included in a session focusing on Southern Africa during the pandemic, held on 6 September.
