Workshop

Workshop on macroeconomic dataset

On 27 March 2025, the Center for Economic and Management Studies (CEEG) of the Faculty of Economics at the University of Eduardo Mondlane (UEM) will organize a workshop on a database of macroeconomic indicators for Mozambique.

This database, produced under the Inclusive Growth in Mozambique (IGM) programme, is based on a compilation of publicly available macroeconomic indicators from various online platforms, notably the National Institute of Statistics (INE) and the Bank of Mozambique (BM), resulting in a unique collection of data that includes indicators for national accounts, prices, key monetary aggregates, the balance of payments and its components, credit to the economy, and (partially) public finances. Key series include:

  • GDP by expenditure, production, and income, and their components, with the oldest annual series starting in 1991 and the oldest quarterly series starting in the first quarter of 2017 (over 30 observations).
  • Monetary accounts from the Bank of Mozambique and commercial banks, with continuous monthly series since December 2007 (over 200 observations).
  • Consumer and product price indices, with continuous monthly series since January 2016 (over 90 observations).
  • Retail interest rates, with monthly series since January 2001 (over 280 observations).
  • Exchange rates for the US Dollar, Euro, British Pound, Rand, and Yuan, with monthly series since December 2008 (over 180 observations).

The objective of the workshop is to familiarize participants with the database, identify specific topics for further analysis, and promote research utilizing the available data. The workshop is intended for researchers and analysts at the Faculty of Economics at UEM, the Ministry of Planning and Development, and the Ministry of Finance, as well as other individuals interested in conducting research using macroeconomic data for Mozambique. The workshop will be conducted by Ricardo Santos, Research Fellow at UNU-WIDER and Resident Advisor at CEEG.
