Workshop on Macroeconomic Modelling
Workshop on macroeconomic modelling
On Monday, 17 March 2025, the National Directorate of Economic Policies and Development (DNPED) of the Ministry of Planning and Development (MPD) organizes an internal workshop on macroeconomic modelling to discuss the models currently used, in particular the Macro Framework (Quadro Macro), and the opportunities for developing the Government of Mozambique's macroeconomic modelling.
High-quality macroeconomic modeling is crucial for governments as it enables informed policy decisions by providing a comprehensive understanding of economic interactions. It allows them to forecast the potential impacts of policy changes, assess economic risks, and develop strategies to mitigate them. Ultimately, this supports stable and sustainable economic growth.
The main objectives of this workshop are to explore alternative applications of macroeconomic modeling in policy formulation, including its role in the Medium-Term Fiscal Framework (CFMP), State Budget, IMF negotiations, and long-term planning. It will also review various modeling approaches, assessing their advantages and disadvantages, while evaluating their relevance for Mozambican authorities through a critical review of the Macro Framework (Quadro Macro) model. The workshop aims to foster discussions on Mozambique’s economic challenges, how different models can enhance policy formulation, and opportunities to improve data tools.
The workshop is for relevant ministries and government institutions, and it is given by Sam Jones, UNU-WIDER Research Fellow and Resident Advisor at the Ministry of Planning and Development (MPD).
