Training

Training of IIM survey enumerators

During 21–25 March 2022, the Inclusive growth in Mozambique (IGM) programme organizes a training for survey enumerators hired to carry out the 2022 round of the Survey of Mozambican Manufacturing Firms (IIM 2022).

The training consists of a detailed presentation of the survey questionnaire, various practical exercises and group work. Altogether 40 enumerators participate in the training prior to setting off in the field to carry out the survey. The field work is implemented in April–May 2022 in the main urban areas of seven provinces in Mozambique: Maputo Cidade, Maputo Província, Gaza, Sofala, Manica, Tete and Nampula.

About the survey

The IIM 2022 is the third round of the Survey of Mozambican Manufacturing Firms carried out by the IGM programme. The first one was carried out in 2012, followed by the second in 2017.

By tracing the same manufacturing firms over time, the IIM surveys allow to document the development of the economic situation of the manufacturing sector in Mozambique over the last 10 years.

The IIM survey is planned and implemented by researchers from the Development Economics Research Group (DERG) at the University of Copenhagen (UCPH), the United Nations University World Institute for Development Economics Research (UNU-WIDER), and the Centre for Studies on Economics and Management (CEEG) at the University of Eduardo Mondlane (UEM) in Maputo. The survey and subsequent analysis are implemented under the National Directorate of Economic and Development Policies (DNPED), CEEG, UNU-WIDER, and UCPH-DERG under the IGM programme financially supported by the Ministry for Foreign Affairs of Finland and the Ministry for Foreign Affairs of Norway.

The preliminary results of this study are expected to be ready by November 2022, and the final report in the first quarter of 2023.
