Working paper on poverty and well-being presented at the fifth International Conference of IESE

UNU-WIDER research fellow Vincenzo Salvucci gave a presentation on the evolution of poverty and well-being in Mozambique, 1996/97–2014/15, during the fifth International Conference of Institute of Social and Economic Studies (IESE) in Maputo.

Vincenzo presented an analysis of poverty and well-being based on the several Household Budget Surveys (Inquérito sobre Orçamento Familiar), with rounds from 1996/97 to 2014/15. According to the study, well-being levels have improved from 1996/97 to 2014/15. However, these gains have not contributed to a convergence in welfare levels between rural and urban zones or geographic regions, and consumption inequality is worsening.

The researcher also mentioned that UNU-WIDER and the Ministry of Economics and Finance through its Directorate of Economic and Financial Studies are currently undertaking a study to analyze the effects of the crises from 2015 to 2016 on household consumption and poverty.
