Research Fellows from the project review the challenges of the Mozambican labour market

Sam Jones and Ricardo Santos presented data on labour markets in Mozambique in a special event held at the Ministry for Foreign Affairs of Finland in Helsinki on 21 September.

The researchers showed that Mozambique has seen a rapid demographic growth which has led to an increase in the labour force. However, most of the workforce is still predominately rural and manufacturing is not absorbing enough labour. Investing in the agriculture sector, and creating integrated strategies linking agriculture and agro-industry could be one of the keys to inclusive growth.

Researchers, officials from the foreign ministry and development practitioners attended the event and discussed innovative ways to guide future research efforts in Mozambique. The event was organized by Finland’s Ministry for Foreign Affairs, one of the project donors.
